About Marisa Lawlor
Marisa loves to draw upon all disciplines in helping people understand the way their bodies move and empowering them to take control of their personal wellbeing. A very experienced secondary school teacher and fitness instructor, Marisa has a passion for helping others delight in moving with freedom and awareness, understanding their bodies and simply feeling good! With over 30 years of experience facilitating dance and fitness classes for a vast range of participants, Marisa’s teaching is now focused on the multiple health benefits of Pilates, Body Balance and Yoga. From an early age, Marisa trained in classical ballet to Advanced level and has her Associate teaching certificate with ISTD (Cecchetti method). After a move into Contemporary dance in her early 20’s, she gained a Graduate Diploma in Dance and Movement in Education to add scope to her B Arts and Dip Ed in English and Humanities (Melbourne University). This opened up the opportunity to teach senior school level dance in both London and Australia. As an adjunct to her dance training, Marisa also holds certification as a Group Fitness and Gym Instructor, Barre Attack, Les Mills Body Balance, Body Jam and Body Pump Instructor, Pilates Mat 1&2 and Pre and Post Natal Instructor.

We were privileged to have Marisa volunteer her time and run several “Move and Groove” workshops at the 2015 Batman Park Fun Day Fete. She ran a series of workshops for both parents and children involving a mix of yoga, Pilates and dance. Marisa is a wonderfully enthusiastic and inspiring instructor with an unparalleled ability to motivate and encourage families to have fun through movement. Marisa’s warm and extremely energetic approach gave both children and parents alike the confidence to step outside their comfort zone and enjoy all that “Move and Groove” had to offer on Fun Day. I’ve been to lots of exercise classes and I’ve never found a teacher who makes me feel as comfortable and confident about moving my body as Marisa does. Marisa’s enthusiasm and enjoyment in taking her classes makes them lots of fun. The blend of Pilates and Yoga she teaches provides a whole body workout, with different options according to each individual’s strength and flexibility. Marisa is a great teacher and works hard to engage with all the members of the class in a lighthearted and interesting manner which helps to drive you to doing the hard work. The exercises that I have done in her class have really helped with engaging more of my core whilst running which has made it easier to perform at a higher level and the stretching has really helped during post run and supplementing general fitness.
